The Sundarbans, the largest mangrove forest in the world, are a lifeline for coastal communities in Bangladesh and a vital buffer against climate change. Yet these ecosystems face growing pressure from environmental degradation and economic hardship. This film highlights a project supported by the Ocean Community Empowerment and Nature (OCEAN) Grants Programme, which funds community-led approaches to protecting marine and coastal ecosystems. Through this support, local partners are restoring mangroves while strengthening livelihoods and building long-term resilience. Working in partnership with the Bangladesh Environment and Development Society (BEDS), Mangrove Action Project (MAP) supports community-based mangrove restoration rooted in ecological knowledge, local leadership, and education. Together, they are helping communities restore degraded areas, increase the capacity for mangrove education, and protect the Sundarbans for future generations.
